“Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul.” –Plato
The Chorus and Orchestra of Charles University in Prague welcome new members!
The Orchestra welcomes new members to its string section, and will also gladly hear from advanced oboe, bassoon and horn players. String players are not usually auditioned, but undergo an informal period of probation before membership is confirmed. Wind players on particular instruments are individually auditioned. All instrumental players should please email us as soon as possible on info at sboraorchestruk.cz for more information. It is necessary to let us know before attending the first rehearsal, so that we can email you music in advance. Our first rehearsal will be on 1 February at 7.30 p.m.; rehearsals are normally held weekly on Wednesday evenings, and two weekend workshops this semester will be held, at various locations. Major concerts will be held in May, and performances of works by Beethoven (Romance in F), Nielsen (Søvnen) and Sibelius (Lemminkainen) are planned.
Our Chorus warmly welcomes new singers in all voices. A quick and informal voice trial for potential new members is held in the course of the first two rehearsals, on 1 and 8 February at the Charvátův Sál, on the first floor of the hospital building at U Nemocnice, 1 (the closest tram stop being Moráň), 5-7 p.m. It is not necessary to write to us in advance – just feel free to come along to one of the first two Wednesday sessions and introduce yourself to us! Rehearsals are held weekly, in English as well as in Czech, so the language barrier need not be a problem! There will also be two full weekend workshops. This semester we plan, amongst other things, Dvořák’s lovely Mass in D (in a brand new edition), and Nielsen’s magnificent Søvnen with large orchestra, with concerts in April and in May. This semester we also look forward to collaborations with two other friendly choirs.
